Tour du Mont Blanc 2027: when refuge bookings open, and in what order to book

Bookings for summer 2027 open on 15 October 2026 for the 43 refuges, gîtes and hotels on the booking platform of the TMB refuge wardens (montourdumontblanc.com). The four places that fill first are not on it: Rifugio Bonatti, Rifugio Elisabetta, the Refuge du Lac Blanc and La Flégère. La Flégère opens on 5 January 2027; the other three had published no 2027 date when we checked on 29 September 2026.

What changes in 2027

From spring 2027, anyone walking the French section of the tour, from Vallorcine to Les Contamines-Montjoie through Chamonix and Saint-Gervais, needs a reservation for every night: a refuge, a hotel, a campsite or an approved bivouac area.

Wild camping ends in those sectors. Bivouacking will only be allowed in marked areas with water and toilets, for a fee and with a limited number of places. Luggage moved between stages will be limited to trekking bags, at set times.

The management charter was still being written in September 2026, so details can move. About 75,000 people walked the tour in summer 2025.

The Croix du Bonhomme is closed until 2029

The big refuge on the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme closed on 17 August 2026 for rebuilding and should reopen in spring 2029 (reported by FFRandonnée; we did not read it on the FFCAM’s own page). Its walkers now sleep lower down, around Les Chapieux, so that night fills sooner than it used to.

In what order to book

Book the scarce nights first and fit the easy ones around them.

  1. Before 15 October: pick a start date and a second one a few days later, and create your account on the platform so you are not filling in forms on opening day.
  2. On 15 October: book the night at Les Chapieux first, then the Swiss nights and the rest of the French side.
  3. Bonatti and Elisabetta: they are not on the platform. Until they confirm, hold one fallback in the same valley (Val Ferret, Val Veny), and let it go the day they say yes. Someone else needs that bed.
  4. In January: La Flégère on 5 January, the Chalet des Contamines during the month. Keep checking the Lac Blanc.
  5. Before you go: on the platform you can change a booking and get 80% of the deposit back up to 30 days before each night. At the Lac Blanc, 50% comes back up to 60 days before.

The full plan, if you want it

Every night of the tour with the places that book on the platform and the ones that do not, a fallback in the same valley, each refuge’s cancellation rules, and a calendar that reminds you on the right days. PDF in English, Dutch and French. Every date carries its source. It books nothing for you.

When does La Flégère open bookings for 2027?

On 5 January 2027, for a season from 12 June to 18 September 2027, according to the refuge’s own site.

Do I need a reservation for every night in 2027?
