Triglav Lakes Valley: 3 stages and when to book

The heart of Triglav National Park in three short, steep days: up from the Komna plateau into a valley of glacial lakes, over a bare karst saddle at nearly 2,400 m with Triglav above you, and down a mule track into the Zadnjica valley to Trenta. Two mountain huts, no camping, and a hut in the middle of the valley that takes only booked guests.

Start: Dom na Komni. Finish: Trenta.

The 3 stages

DayStageDistanceClimb
1Dom na Komni → Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih7.2 km526 m
2Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih → Koča na Doliču7.6 km851 m
3Koča na Doliču → Trenta10.6 km646 m

The line is Via Alpina’s three Red Trail stages across the valley as OpenStreetMap maps them, chained and cut at the huts: 25.4 km against their published 24.2, every stage inside 16%. Walking times are Via Alpina’s own and elevation comes from a terrain model, so treat ascent and descent as close rather than surveyed. The classic Seven Lakes finish over Prehodavci is a different line and is not drawn here.

Book these first

Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih takes overnight guests by online reservation only, on its own site sedmera.si. Meals you can order on the day; a bed you cannot.

That hut is open 6 June to 30 September in 2026, and those dates are the season for this route: the valley’s only bed is inside them.

The hut charges the full amount when you book. Changing the booking is free up to three times by the link in the confirmation, and cancelling is free until two days before arrival; after that there is no refund.

When to go

The season is the hut’s: Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih is open 6 June to 30 September in 2026, and it is the only bed in the valley. Snow lies on the Hribarice crossing into early July.
